Specifying an Extension Spring from Lee Spring

What is an extension spring?

An extension spring attaches to other components at each end with hooks, eyes or similar attaching characteristics. As the components move apart, the spring tries to pull them back together. Extension springs provide the return force to components that are designed to extend and are often tightly wound in the no-load position. Extension Springs are wound to oppose extension.

Lee Spring supplies a range of stock extension springs with varying end types, such as crossover centre loops, extended twist loops, rectangular ends and teardrop ends. For specialist applications, if the type of spring required is not available in the Lee Spring catalogue, Lee Spring offers a custom spring design service.

How to specify an extension spring

Extension springs come in an array of sizes, ranging from very small springs to be used in medical devices to large off-road machinery brake springs.  There are thousands of different uses for extension springs, which include automotive interiors and exteriors, garage door assemblies, vice-grip pliers, carburettors, trampolines, washing devices, farm machinery and toys.

Search the Lee Spring catalogue, using the guides and advice to find the right spring to suit your application. If you can’t see what you need, contact Lee Spring to find out about our custom spring design service.
