Selecting the right Lee Spring product for your application

It is important to select a spring based on the specific application requirements. First consider, will it be a ‘pull application’, requiring an extension spring (that opens out when pressure is applied) or a ‘push application’ requiring a compression spring (in which the coils condense when pressure is applied).

There are various types of spring available to suit a range of application requirements:
A Die Spring is a compression spring suited to heavy stress and heavy load applications. Lee Spring’s HEFTY™ DIE SPRING range is often used in clutches, brakes, farm machinery and aircraft mechanisms
Plastic springs offer unique properties. They are inert and non-magnetic, feature high strength to weight ratios, excellent corrosion resistance, low flammability and toxicity, good stability at elevated temperatures and are recyclable.
A Torsion Spring is a helical spring that exerts a torque or rotary force and commonly used in hinges, such as in clothes pins, clipboards, swing-down tailgates and garage doors.
The REDUX Wave spring is designed to suit applications where space is critical.  It can occupy just 30% to 50% of the compressed height of a conventional round wire spring.

Depending on the application, the spring may be required to withstand harsh conditions, such as outdoors in extreme weather conditions, in very low or high temperatures or underwater. Custom spring design can help to ensure that the spring or fastener has been manufactured to suit the specific requirement, using the correct spring materials. There is a wide range of materials available. High performance alloys, also known as superalloys, have been developed specifically to withstand extreme conditions including very high temperatures and high levels of pressure, and tend to be resistant to corrosion and oxidation, as well as less likely to deform at high temperatures.
When selecting a spring, consult the Lee Spring catalogue, using the guides and advice to search for the right spring for you. If you can’t see what you need, contact Lee Spring to find out about our custom spring design service.
